Internationalization

The PhD program in Economics, Management, and Statistics has had an international focus since its inception (XXIX Cycle). The PhD Board maintains research collaborations with various international universities and research institutions, through its members, who promote international research projects with the involvement of PhD students.

For example, through the Research & Mobility project entitled “Higher moments of asset returns: realized measures, the cross-section of equity returns and mutual fund returns, volatility clustering and correlation determinants“, in collaboration with Professors from the Université Catholique de Louvain and Imperial College London, advanced econometrics lectures were organized for PhD student, along with visiting periods at these universities.

Similarly, the Research & Mobility project titled "A Novel Approach to Urban Metabolism: integration of Economic, environmental and Social Issues for the design of sustainable urban systems" facilitated research collaborations with the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the School of Environment at Tsinghua University in Beijing (China), where two PhD students carried out research stays.

These collaborations continue to be very successful today. In addition, a PhD student in the XXXIV Cycle benefits from a scholarship provided by the CRESTING project (Circular Economy: Sustainability implications and guiding progress), funded by the European Commission (EC) as part of the Marie Skłodowska Curie (MSCA) Innovative Training Network initiative.

In 2020, a project was submitted for a cotutelle PhD scholarship with Université de Montpellier as part of the Italo-French Vinci program, while in September 2019 a joint PhD thesis was discussed between the PhD in “Economics, Management and Statistics” of the University of Messina and the Doctorat Sciences de Economiques at Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech.

In addition to these formal collaborations, there are partnerships with researchers from King’s College London and the World Bank, who have expressed interest in hosting PhD students for visiting periods.
