Program objectives

The PhD in Economics, Management and Statistics offers an internationally competitive training and research program, whose objective is to provide a stimulating environment for highly motivated students with adequate potential to undertake subsequent research activities both in the academic field and in national and international research institutions.

The main objectives are:

  1. To attract Italian and foreign students who are motivated and interested in carrying out advanced research activities.
  2. To provide adequate theoretical and empirical skills to carry out research activities considered to have a high qualitative profile from an international point of view.
  3. To develop the ability to conduct research activities individually and/or as members of international groups.
Main teaching activities
Official language

Classes and seminars will be totally held in English. The final Ph.D. thesis is also expected in the same language. Doctoral students' knowledge of English will be assessed during the admission exam.

IT competencies and facilities

During teaching activities, Ph.D. students will make use of computer laboratories and econometric, data processing, and calculation software packages to draft both empirical and theoretical papers. In this regard, specific courses will be offered for learning software packages such as STATA, GRETL, and R. Computer laboratories available in the Department of Economics will also be used for teaching activities.

Management of research, knowledge of research and funding systems

Internships will be organized on practical aspects related to grants and funding programs offered by the European Commision, the European Research Council or other funding sources such as international philanthropic foundations and other public and private bodies. University initiatives related to national and international funding programs (e.g., Italian PRIN and FIRB; EU's HORIZON program), and related application and reporting methods will be widely disseminated among doctoral students.

Valorization of research results and intellectual property

The Ph.D. program encourages the participation of doctoral students in conferences and seminars for the dissemination of research results. Similarly, the Ph.D. program encourages the participation of doctoral students in study conferences, seminars, and other cultural events both in Italy and abroad. Furthermore, doctoral students will be invited to submit their works to both national and international specialized journals.
